How to Use the OpenVPN Connect App on Your Android Device to Connect to NordVPN Servers

Android offers APIs to developers that allow them to create virtual private networks (VPNs). These apps provide VPN protocols the built-in client does not support, and will allow you to connect to VPN services without any complicated configuration.

This article explains how to use the OpenVPN app on your Android device to connect to NordVPN servers. This article also shows how to manually configure the connection using the NordVPN application and an OpenVPN Profile. This method is more complex however it gives you greater control over the quality of your connection and mobile data.

Download the OpenVPN Connect application from the Google Play Store. Then, you’ll require the OpenVPN configuration files from your VPN service provider. The configs come with a.ovpn extension and are available from the VPN provider’s website or their live chat support. Once you’ve downloaded the config files, you can transfer them to your Android device (or PC). You can do this by directly downloading them to the device or using an application like ZArchiver.

Launch the OpenVPN application and tap “+”, to add an existing VPN profile. Select a server, then tap “Connect”. Once connected, the tunnel encrypts all Internet traffic to the server. The app shows the status and information of the connection on the Status tab. The app also has an automatic VPN option that keeps the connection alive even when the app isn’t running.
